They’re going to keep pushing the envelope,” he said of demonstrators who’ve gotten violent during protests in Ferguson. “There’s no reason to stop. … It’s as simple as training your dog. If you don’t tell them stop biting, guess what, he’s going to continue to bite.
In case people are still claiming that this isn’t race related, former St. Louis County police officer comparing the Ferguson demonstrators to dogs. And let’s face it, this gross comparison is being made because the majority of demonstrators are Black. In the same piece Newshaw even says “This sounds wrong, but I don’t think the black community understands the system.”.
Menstrual pads have been mentioned as early as the 10th century, in the Suda, where Hypatia, who lived in the 4th century AD, was said to have thrown one of her used menstrual rags at an admirer in an attempt to discourage him
if you don’t think history is a truly inspiring subject you’re wrong (via orcasoup)
It wasn’t at all just an admirer that she was trying to discourage. Hypatia was a brilliant philosopher, astronomer and mathematician. It’s probable that because her life’s work was improving Ptolemy’s theory through finding and filling the gaps in it, that her work influenced Copernicus to rethink the model of Earth as the center of the universe. Hypatia was a famous philosopher who taught students of all religions at a time when relations between religions were sour. The story of her throwing a used menstrual rag was actually how she dealt with the sexual harassment from one of her own students. And she never heard from him after that. Unfortunately Hypatia was still pretty young when she was brutally murdered by monks; her corpse was cut to pieces and burned. Religion doing what it does best.
